Jan Borowy is a leading human rights, pay equity and labour lawyer who brings decades of experience to her practice.
Legal Advocacy and Systemic Expertise
Jan regularly appears before provincial and federal pay equity and human rights tribunals, as well as labour arbitrators and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She has appeared at all levels of appellant court, including Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
She also conducts training on pay equity, human rights, and labour law—grounded in clients’ real-world needs and the lived experience of workers and unions. Jan regularly speaks at conferences and continuing education programs to ensure participants stay current on evolving legal issues.
Leadership, Collaboration, and Recognition
Jan was a partner at one of Canada’s leading union-side law firms before moving in-house to a major private sector union to help build their pay equity enforcement capacity. Opening Borowy Law allows her to collaborate more directly with clients to get results.
She is co-chair of the Ontario Equal Pay Coalition and contributes to organizing, policy analysis, and law reform focused on closing the gender pay gap and advancing pay transparency.
Jan has been recognized as a leading labour and human rights lawyer by Best Lawyers in Canada.
She holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Master’s in Political Science from York University. Jan is a member of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Advocates Society.
